It’s a universal truth: we all could use more storage no matter where we live or work. The tradeoff, unfortunately, is that additional storage in the form of furniture takes up more floor space – that is, until now. Lisbon-based design brand UTIL has launched the next iteration of its popular KGT Storage Box with the KGT Wall Unit. What originally started out as a stackable storage box is now, essentially, a floating cabinet.
The modular system was designed in collaboration with Studio CP-RV. The original storage box, which could be used as a tray, standing filing cabinet, or a shelf, can now be mounted onto the wall, creating a visually striking storage solution for those who don’t want their furniture to take up the whole room. The removable drawers conceal its contents to maintain the minimalist aesthetic while the gaps between each drawer recall the negative space in Donald Judd’s Stacks sculptures, reinforcing each box’s individuality.
There are four versions available: a single unit, a vertical stack of three units, a vertical stack of six units, and a horizontal iteration with three units tucked under a continuous surface top. Each version comes in seven different colors: Ultramarine, Coral, Light Grey, Ivory, Brushed Aluminum, Pure Green, and Orange.
UTIL also recently opened its first showroom in Lisbon where visitors can see the different iterations of the KGT Wall Units up close and personal.
